Community Board 12-Manhattan is deeply saddened and disturbed by the shooting on the George Washington Bridge on October 20, 2026. The victim, Koran Irvine, was a Con Edison employee, remembered by those close to him as a devoted family man.
We understand law enforcement officials have arrested a retired police detective in connection with the incident. Law enforcement and the District Attorney’s Office must act swiftly to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, so that the facts are established and justice is served.
Our thoughts are with Mr. Irvine’s family, friends, and colleagues as they mourn their loss. Mr. Irvine’s death is a loss for our entire community, and we stand with Black families in our district who are grieving and who deserve safety, support, and justice.
We are evaluating pending state legislation regarding gun restrictions and stronger enforcement for review at the November meetings. Violence of this kind has no place in our community or anywhere in our city.
