Community Board 12-Manhattan (CB12M) held its general meeting on January 27, 2026, addressing issues impacting the district and inviting residents to share their perspectives. As part of the evening’s agenda, the board adopted several resolutions advanced by its standing committees.
The resolutions reflect CB12M’s recommendations and policy positions across a range of issues. Two resolutions focused on education: one supporting a contractual remedy for employees in New York City’s student-transportation system, and another addressing the appropriate use of artificial intelligence in NYC public schools. Additional resolutions commended the Acting Health Commissioner for her stance in support of vaccines and called for the reopening of Dolphin Park.
“We’re off to an incredible start for 2026, demonstrating to the community that we work for its benefit,” said Anthony Viola, Chairperson of CB12M. “There is so much work ahead of us, but we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far in January.”
Tanesha Grant, Second Vice Chair of CB12M and Chair of its Youth & Education Committee, emphasized the importance of the issues affecting the district’s children. “This month’s resolutions reflect our dedication to promoting fairness in NYC Public Schools transportation and responsible AI policies for all District 6 students,” Grant said.
The Health & Environment Committee presented a resolution supporting state legislation to reduce harmful packaging, urging state legislators to vote in favor of the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act (S1464/A1749).
The Traffic & Transportation Committee, in collaboration with the Parks & Cultural Affairs Committee, introduced a resolution calling on the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to reopen the area commonly known as Dolphin Park. The resolution holds the Port Authority to its commitment to restore public access to the park by May 2026.
“These resolutions embody CB12M’s commitment to proactive, cross-agency advocacy that advances projects and delivers real results for the community,” said Leo Jimenez, First Vice Chairperson of CB12M and Chair of its Traffic & Transportation Committee. “We establish clear accountability and transparent communication through community dialogue, coordination with partner agencies, and consistent follow-up. We work for the community.”
In total, CB12M passed 20 resolutions in January.
